According to Paul Daniels, Paul Knapp's grandson, the name was changed to "Buck & Knapp" when Dan Buck returned from WWII military service and bought out Paul Knapp's interest in the business. However, the business continued to be called "Knapp & Buck".

Dan Buck had peviously served as a livestock inspector before World War II. During a period of dispondency, Dan Buck died of a self-inflicted gunshot on December 15, 1969.
