Muskingum County, Ohio native Hiram Sebastian Miller was an award-winning gardener and apiarist. His operation was on the south bank of Ten Mile Creek, just east of the Broadwater Hotel and Natatorium, on what is now Broadwater Avenue. The house, built about 1900, is still standing, although it has been extensively remodeled; it is shown below as it appeared in September of 2012...

Miller won numerous Montana State Fair prizes for his produce. He excelled in producing tomatoes, squash, onions, leeks, cabbage, pickling cucumbers and kale. His comb honey and beeswax also took honors at the Fair.

The Miller operation was just east of that of another noted Helena gardener, Roy Van Horn (1892-1969), who also hailed from Muskingum County in Ohio. Available newspaper archives do not reveal any relationship between the two men.
