The American
Biscuit Company opened this factory in Helena on Boulder Avenue
in 1892. In 1898, the National Biscuit Company (Na-Bis-Co) was
formed from the consolidation of the American Biscuit Company,
the New York Biscuit Company, and the United States Baking Company.
Even before the factory was built, wags in other Montana cities, notably Butte and Anaconda, began to dub Helena "Cracker City" in the press. This was at a time when competition between cities for the location of the State capital was intense... |
