The American Biscuit Company opened this factory in Helena on Boulder Avenue in 1892. In 1898, the National Biscuit Company (Na-Bis-Co) was formed from the consolidation of the American Biscuit Company, the New York Biscuit Company, and the United States Baking Company.

Even before the factory was built, wags in other Montana cities, notably Butte and Anaconda, began to dub Helena "Cracker City" in the press. This was at a time when competition between cities for the location of the State capital was intense...

The Sixth Ward (depot district) where this building is located, was hit especially hard by the 1935 quakes. Nabisco was less than one mile from the quake epicenter. At the time of the quakes, this facility functioned primarily as a distribution center.
